Corporate Counsel, Employment The candidate will provide guidance on a range of nation-wide employment law matters, with particular emphasis on drafting and negotiating employment-related documents, providing counsel with respect to company policies and procedures, and advising on various employee relations matters. Will also handle potential and active litigation matters, including but not limited to employment-related litigation, assist with immigration matters and pitch in to help the Legal team on other special projects as needed. Draft and negotiate documents for the People Operations team. Advise on federal, state, and local employment laws in California, New York and Pennsylvania. Work cross-functionally to develop, draft and implement HR policies and best practices. Provide guidance on compensation, benefits and equity issues. Counsel on employee relations matters, including investigations. Monitor statutory and regulatory workforce requirements and related agency guidance. Provide employment law-related education to internal clients at regular intervals. Lead all potential and active litigation matters, including employment-related litigation matters, often with external counsel. Assist in various immigration matters. Provide direction on special projects or other general matters on behalf of the Legal team, as needed. The candidate must have JD from a top law school and current member in good standing of the California bar or eligible to become Registered In-House Counsel in California. Must have 5+ years of employment related legal experience; in-house experience, particularly at a fast-growing start-up, is strongly preferred. Must have demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and actively anticipating issues. Must be active listener with strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate nuanced concepts into concise and practical guidance. Must have excellent business insight and personal integrity. Must be a strong collaborator, remaining flexible and pitching in wherever needed.
