Corporate/Regulatory Counsel The candidate responsible for assisting management with all legal and regulatory issues while providing guidance and direction to senior management and the Board of Directors that reflects sound judgment, strategic vision, and substantive legal knowledge and expertise. Assigns legal work to in-house counsel and manages Legal Services Department. Directs all aspects of litigation of claims against the Health System, including patient care injury, contract, environmental, discrimination, and workers' compensation claims. Drafts pleadings, briefs, and legal memoranda, conducts discovery and depositions. Represents the Health System on trials and hearings. Ensures maximum protection of the organizations legal rights utilizing broad familiarity with most major legal disciplines. Handles claims by the Health System, including property damage subrogation claims and collection. In support of NCHS strategic initiatives, Leaders must effectively manage the Performance Pillar Metrics on their Monthly Scorecard. Regular rounding is critical to gathering feedback and making effective decisions that will improve leader's metrics on their Monthly Scorecard. Interact with members of the Health System community, legal profession, officials of state and federal government, and others as assigned by the Vice President and CEO. Understanding of and adhere to the Code of Business and Legal Conduct, the Ethics and Compliance Program, and the no retaliation policies. Complies with all laws regulations and Health System policies governing the delivery of quality health care services to include but not limited to all DNV-GL. Oversees the litigation management, licensing, and accreditation and employment counseling/litigation. Provides legal support and advice to Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors. Recommends changes to policies and practices to comply with new legal requirements. Ensures legal policies and documentation are in place to support the business from a financial and regulatory perspective; monitor the effectiveness of legal risk controls and identify and remedy control gaps. Represents the Health System in civil litigation and administrative hearings held by local, state, and federal agencies; performs all phases of pretrial, trial, and appellate work. Researches legal issues and statutory and case law; drafts and reviews opinions, resolutions, contracts, leases, deeds and other legal documents and instruments. Supervises and coordinates the activities of outside legal counsel retained by the Health System for one or more specialized types of litigation. Work with government and regulatory legal team to interpret regulatory orders and provide compliance advice. Juris Doctorate Law Degree from an accredited US Law School is required. FL Bar - Attorney Florida Bar License is required. Must have 7-10 years experience as a practicing lawyer, in-house experience at a healthcare provider. Experience in the areas of corporate governance, hospital operations, physician practice operations, risk management, litigation management, and labor and employment is required.
