Real Estate Attorney Duties: Working under the guidance of the General Counsel, will be responsible for: Drafting and negotiating settlement agreements, deferral agreements, tolling agreements, amendments, NDAs, and other agreements. Drafting demand and default letters and other pre-litigation communications. Making NYC based Landlord/Tenant court appearances. Negotiating with attorneys and business representatives regarding third party disputes. Coordinating with business representatives regarding ADA compliance. Addressing public access issues. Responding to subpoenas and government inquiries. Coordinating responses to discovery in conjunction with outside counsel. Assisting the leasing, development, and operations teams in interpreting contract language and avoiding lease violations. Reviewing leases, amendments, letters of credit, and other legal documents in relation to disputes or to avoid litigation. Assisting the operations teams in tenant and customer negotiations. Must be able to identify and discuss legal and business issues and assist the teams in resolving such issues in the best interest of the company. Providing advice to the leasing, operations, and development teams in the avoidance of legal disputes including client/tenant legal issues, tenant leases, insurance and risk management related matters, tenant defaults and other miscellaneous legal matters. Manage local property management staff on tenant operational/lease issues, landlord/tenant matters, collection activities, and other operational matters. Providing guidance and advice on legal aspects of leases, vendor agreements, construction contracts and other general real estate matters. Providing general legal support and litigation guidance to corporate and operational departments (e.g., marketing, management, procurement, IT, etc.) as necessary. Participating in the development and interpretation of company operating policies. Providing general legal services on other miscellaneous matters that may arise from time to time. Coordinating and overseeing outside counsel to the extent necessary. Preparing and providing training sessions for employees on various topics in order to mitigate litigation risks and costs.

Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school located in the United States. Current license in good standing to practice law in New York and/or New Jersey. Demonstrated experience in analyzing, drafting and negotiating contracts, responding to governmental inquiries and providing legal guidance in the areas of landlord/tenant litigation, construction litigation, and contracts. 5+ years of progressively responsible experience representing clients in real estate litigation matters. Law firm experience preferred. Must possess strong legal research, and analytical skills. The ability to independently manage matters and prioritize to meet competing deadlines. Property management experience a plus. Must know when to appropriately escalate issues to the General Counsel as necessary. Be able to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines and priorities. Ability to work well under pressure and maintain composure without compromising quality of work. Possess highly effective verbal and written communication skills to successfully interact with senior leadership, management, physicians, regulators and outside counsel. Skilled in the use of Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
