Counsel, Litigation The candidate will handle complex and business-critical legal work in the assigned area. Select, assign, oversee and evaluate the work of external counsel to ensure delivery of the appropriate level of service. Consistently make logical, well-reasoned and timely decisions; fully examine risks and consequences before making difficult decisions. Develop and implement cost-efficient legal strategies and policies in the assigned area consistent with stakeholder expectations. Develop and implement initiatives to reduce and control the expenditure of external legal costs in a prudent manner. Under general supervision of Deputy General Counsel, BioPharmaceuticals, manage the activities of outside counsel, and supervise the work of in-house Paralegals. Provide efficient, value-adding and proactive legal advice in the assigned area in order to mitigate present and potential future risk and exposure. Stay abreast of legal implications of developing external trends and develop a bit picture perspective. Be a leader amongst senior management and departmental colleagues, and a Legal business partner to senior clients. Maintain focus on company's business priorities, including during periods of sustained pressure. Actively seek to improve existing ways of working. Identify the need for and maintain appropriate collaborations with other Legal support areas to ensure a seamless global service to clients. Maintains appropriate collaborations within the US Legal Department and more broadly with other Legal support areas globally; routinely seeks out others to share information, create solutions and works as a team player. Educate and train clients in the assigned area on important legal issues relative to their area of responsibility. Handle special projects assigned by the Deputy General Counsel, BioPharmaceuticals.

The candidate should have Law degree and admission to the Bar of at least one state. Must have 5+ years of relevant legal practice experience in legal department of corporation or major law firm, preferably working with the pharmaceutical industry. Proficiency in the laws relating to the approval, sale and marketing of pharmaceutical products and experience in counseling on legal issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience in effectively working on and collaborating with business teams with ability and willingness to develop these skills further. Strong negotiation and counseling skills essential. Ability to make logical, well-reasoned, and timely decisions in the moment, along with leadership skills that enable effective implementation of such decisions. Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required.
