AVP, Senior Counsel - Privacy The candidate provides leadership, direction and functional expertise on complex projects and issues involving privacy and cybersecurity. Strategically provides direction for matters related to privacy laws and regulations, data usage and governance, and legal issues related to information protection, cyber-crime, and emerging technologies. Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for privacy, cyber security, and technology law, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies. Contributes to the development of strategy related to Privacy/Cyber/Data issues for Group and its business units. Provides highly complex legal advice and counsel regarding privacy laws and regulations, data usage and governance, and legal issues related to information protection, cyber-crime, and emerging technologies. Manages relationships with outside counsel retained for privacy/data/cyber projects. Leads or participates in cross-functional teams related to Privacy/Cyber/Data matters, as appropriate. Leads strategic planning and execution of potential privacy incident response plans, including assessing impact and response to potential privacy incidents. Interacts with external stakeholders including institutional clients, regulators, and industry groups on Privacy and Cyber Security legal topics. Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility. Identifies and directs strategic process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent. Directs, establishes and implements priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure departmental results for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Directs and evaluates departmental performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Ensures that top talent is hired and retained for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Builds organizational capability within assigned area(s) of responsibility. The candidate should have a four-year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's degree.) Law degree from an ABA-accredited school is required. IAPP Certification is needed. Must have 10+ years of privacy or business law experience that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience. Experience analyzing Privacy and Cyber Security regulations, including working with business leaders to develop practical implementation plans and see change through to completion is required. Experience analyzing and implementing: state data breach regulations, state insurance privacy regulations, state and federal financial privacy regulations, HIPAA/HITECH privacy requirements, international privacy regulations, ad-tech compliance frameworks, and cyber security frameworks is needed. Should have experience advising business executives on cyber and privacy risks, controls, and compliance. Experience advising financial services organizations on cyber and privacy risks a plus. Must be licensed to practice law and be in good standing in all jurisdictions in which admitted to practice.
