Senior Corporate Counsel - Operations The candidate will be responsible for understanding the daily operations of the company's outpatient surgery centers and surgical hospitals and their affiliates and will provide oversight in the review of compliance matters, statutory and regulatory issues, fraud and abuse considerations, government investigations, HIPAA, reimbursement matters, and internal investigations. Managing the review, investigation, and closure of open compliance matters as direct advisor to the company's Compliance Officers within the Compliance Department; Taking the lead on resolving retrospective questions involving billing, reimbursement, refunds, clinical/medical necessity reviews, and ethics line complaints; Assisting with internal and external investigations, including responding to federal civil investigative demands, subpoenas, and other requests for information. Must have J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited institution. Current license and Bar affiliation required. Should have 5+ years of experience in healthcare regulatory law, with a preference for candidates with large health system experience. Prior large law firm experience is preferred. Must have experience assisting with internal and/or external audits to healthcare providers and supporting and providing legal guidance to compliance teams. Should have experience managing or responding to fraud, waste and abuse investigations and litigation. Must possess a healthcare regulatory and compliance background, including subject matter expertise in federal and state fraud and abuse laws and regulations, conditions of participation, experience in conducting internal investigations, and have significant experience in overseeing a team of lawyers and advising and counseling healthcare facilities (in particular outpatient surgery centers, hospitals, physician groups, and imaging centers) regarding compliance and regulatory matters. This position reports to the USPI Chief Legal Officer.
