Family Law Project Staff Attorney (temporary)

Family Law Project Staff Attorney (Temporary) The candidate will continue for approximately six months. Will be responsible for handling cases referred to the firms Family Law Project for Domestic Abuse Survivors, including Abuse Prevention Orders and family law matters. The Staff Attorney will be in court multiple times a week. Will assist the Project Director in managing the Family Law Project by coordinating the intake and evaluation process; assisting with referrals; and managing statistical data for grant and other funding opportunities. Provide limited assistance representation on family law cases and legal assistance to self-represented litigants. Provide direct representation to clients including representing clients in the Probate and Family Courts and in District Courts. Oversee the Family Law Projects Restraining Order project. Provide legal assistance to self-represented litigants. Conduct evaluations for callers to the Family Law Projects intake line. Assist the Deputy Director with the training, recruitment, and mentoring of Family Law Project pro bono attorneys. Assist with the administration of the Project including working with the lawyers and law firms who participate in the Project. Compile data for grant reporting. Assist with WBF trainings and special events. The candidate should have admission to the Massachusetts Bar. Must have significant knowledge of and experience with domestic violence survivors. 2 years experience in family law is required. Must have demonstrated commitment to serving low-income clients. Should have excellent communication skills and computer literacy. Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limitations with Project participants is required. Proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred.
