Counsel - Privacy The candidate will have key and primary responsibility for providing legal advice and counsel on all aspects of Company customer and employee data privacy program. Will provide leadership and legal expertise on data privacy issues and privacy compliance matters; conduct risk assessments; provide counsel to business leaders and other members of the Legal Department; and identify and contribute to the resolution of privacy related legal issues with a broad and complex range of risk exposure. Will report to the Deputy General Counsel - Global Compliance, Ethics and Investigations and will work collaboratively with other members of Compliance and Ethics and Legal teams, as well as a wide variety of business partners. Broad responsibility and accountability for drafting, negotiating and advising the business on the privacy and data protection aspects of contracts that involve personal data. Analyze new and current laws and regulations and advise the business on privacy and data protection obligations. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including senior management, to provide privacy strategy and guidance to support operations and new initiatives that involve personal data. Conduct and/or support privacy related investigations, incident response and breach notification. Maintain privacy-related policies and internal and external privacy notices. Conduct risk assessments and develop work plans to address identified risks and guide the continued improvement of Company global privacy program. Manage and direct outside counsel as necessary with respect to privacy and data protection matters. Develop and provide privacy training to relevant employee groups. Serve as subject matter expert in the development of company regulatory strategy and data governance strategy. Track and respond to requests and concerns from individuals about their personal data. J.D. is required. Membership in good standing in a state Bar is required. Should have 5+ years relevant experience designing and implementing comprehensive global privacy programs, processes and procedures. In-house, government or large firm private practices experience is required. Deep understanding of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other state, federal, and international privacy and data protection laws and regulations is required. Experience providing privacy counsel to consumer-facing business with large employee population is required. Extensive experience in evaluating and responding to data incidents is required. Extensive experience evolving global privacy programs and appropriately tailoring strategies and policies to fit business needs and risks is required. Airline experience is preferred.
