Corporate Counsel The candidate will be responsible for: Provide strategic direction for the Associations litigation advocacy and compliance offerings; Set priorities and implement innovative solutions to assist the Associations membership through advocacy and with their compliance obligations; Maintain a high-level of understanding of the litigation and compliance environment of the credit and collection industry and the Association membership; Proactively review legal complaints filed against industry members; Determine appropriate litigation matters for which Association support is advisable and manage outside counsel in connection with such litigation; Research and monitor case law impacting the accounts receivable management industry; Drive the development and enhancement of metrics and key performance indicators to monitor success toward the strategic plan; develop and produce reporting to be delivered to the Board, committees and the entire membership; Serve as staff liaison to appropriate Board committee(s), including the Judicial Committee and the MAP Committee; Collaborate with leadership of other functional areas and engage in cross-functional teams in order to achieve strategic success; Coordinate and disseminate information among the Associations departments, programs, and membership regarding litigation advocacy and compliance tools and information; Develop, write and edit content for the Associations educational materials and publications; Educate the Associations membership by speaking at seminars and on webinars, authoring articles for publication, and providing guidance to the Associations members relative to litigation issues and concerns and compliance obligations; Provide direction and leadership to a team of compliance professionals and create an environment that fosters individual and team growth and success; Provide support to General Counsel on a wide variety of corporate legal matters, which may include: intellectual property, employment, corporate transaction, business entity, tax, political activity, governance, and other matters; Participate in special projects and perform other functions as requested and assigned; and Travel to meetings/seminars/events. Must have JD degree from an accredited law school; superior academic credentials preferred. Should have 8-10 years of litigation experience in financial services industry. Must have currently licensed to practice law in Minnesota or able to be admitted. Should have superior writing and presentation skills. Must have knowledge of substantive and procedural laws and regulations relating to issues impacting the credit and collection industry.
