Corporate Counsel - Claims & Litigation Responsibilities: Manage asbestos litigation, mass tort, product litigation and other matters; Assist outside counsel with discovery related issues and coordinate with technical support within business units as necessary; Develop legal portfolio strategies to resolve and / or mange pre-litigation matters; Advise Risk Managers and Senior Business Counsel of settlements on insured matters; Retain and supervise outside counsel to assist with managing and /or coordinating strategic defenses; Providing oversight responsibility for litigation and defense budgets for assigned asbestos and product litigation dockets; Collaborate with outside counsel in the negotiation and / or resolution of matters by actively participating in settlement conferences and mediations; Identify trends in litigation matters and track amounts paid to resolve lawsuits, claims and legal expenses; Manage and implement strategies to control cost and insurance resources (extend insurance coverage); Collaborate with Corporate Accounting to provide guidance to external auditors regarding reserves for assigned litigation matters; All other duties as assigned.

The candidate should have Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school, with a strong academic background. Should have 7-10 years prior legal experience in corporate environment, private firm specializing in asbestos litigation, products liability and /or complex litigation. Extensive knowledge of asbestos litigation, products liability, and general complex litigation. General knowledge and experience with insurance coverage for asbestos litigation and / or products liability claims. Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures associated with company products and services. Strong working knowledge of matter management and claims management systems. Must be self-directed, detail-oriented with strong organization and communication skills; Extensive negotiation background and the ability to resolve cases in a cost-effective manner; Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding; Ability to prioritize and manage workload and simultaneous tasks to meet deadlines.
