Counsel-Lead Employ/HR Attorney The candidate will provide legal advice and counsel in the area of labor and employment law to all firm's business units. Will provide legal advice on both a preventive basis and after problems have arisen. Manages employment claims and litigation directly and/or through outside counsel. Works with minimal supervision and escalates to Law and business unit senior management as appropriate. Provides labor/employment-related legal services required by all firm's business units. Promotes and engages in early dispute resolution; manages W&S Agency Dispute Resolution Program. Drafts, reviews, and revises legal documents (e.g., contracts, employment agreements, employee handbooks, letters of understanding, separation agreements, waivers and releases, settlement agreements, etc.) with minimal direct supervision. Communicates and negotiates with other attorneys, business unit managers, and federal, state and local agencies to accomplish goals and resolve disputes. Drafts position statements in response to administrative charges of employment discrimination or other inquiries from governmental agencies and/or self-regulatory authorities. Provides legal advice and support to Home Office and Agency Human Resources Managers on the daily handling of labor and employment matters, as well as compensation administration. Provides counsel to all levels of management across firm's business units regarding compliance with the full range of labor and employment laws and regulations with minimal direct supervision. Undertakes and manages complex research assignments from General Counsel/Deputy General Counsel and other senior officers. Provides policy and training support in the development and implementation of preventive labor/employment law programs, including presenting or facilitating at seminars and workshops. Provides support to Internal Audit team in connection with compliance with firm's policies and supports any necessary internal investigations or legal actions. Regularly interacts with Agency and firm's Senior Human Resources leadership teams to provide timely business-sensitive advice and counsel on employment decisions (terminations, demotions, promotions, assignments, etc.) and leaves of absence (FMLA, STD, LTD and ADAAA). Provides creative options to solve legal issues resulting from business decisions, and hiring and staffing practices. Provides advice on immigration matters relative to immigration laws and presents options for workforce staffing and management. Conducts or assists with internal investigations into claims of discrimination, policy violations and/or fraud. Identifies, retains and manages outside counsel handling employment litigation, and manages risks of litigation or threatened litigation in line with business unit initiatives and budgetary considerations. Promotes efficient and effective dispute resolution and litigation management. Influences business unit leadership throughout the organization to exercise fair, compliant and ethical behavior in the course and scope of their management decision-making. Manages complex projects involving internal cross discipline teams with minimal direct supervision. May represent firm's in administrative hearings (EEOC, DOL, state human rights commissions and unemployment agencies, etc.) on cases involving the Company with minimal direct supervision. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

The candidate must have 5+ years experience in the areas of federal labor and employment laws. Must have proven ability to work with and manage outside counsel on employment litigation. Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities and skills in building relationships with business unit clients and other attorneys. Must have demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information, verbally and in writing, to internal and external customers at all levels in a clear, accurate, focused and concise manner. Should have Juris Doctor degree from a recognized law school and above average class standing. Must be proficient in the use of word processing and email. Must have License to practice law in Ohio.
