Senior Director, Labor & Employment Counsel The candidate will oversee and direct the legal counsel and advice to senior leadership and human resources regarding employment law and labor relations. Provide strategic legal advice to business leaders and HR professionals regarding matters involving labor and employment, including benefits, collective bargaining agreement requirements, anti-discrimination and leave laws (i.e., Title VII, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, and state law equivalents). Investigate allegations of harassment and discrimination; prepare responses to EEOC and other administrative charges. Prepare legal documents and reviewing company policies and handbooks. Provide support to General Counsel. Protect the organization's rights, obligations, privileges and legal interests by providing legal direction and ensuring legal activities meet needs of the organization, including, for example, affirmative action plans, pay equity, etc. Identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present clear recommendations, and assure legal compliance, Manage investigations of employee complaints of discrimination, harassment and retaliation in order to provide legal advice and manage risk, Develop and maintain relationships with union leaders representing the Companys organized employees. Lead and manage legal aspects of collective bargaining for Companys 28 collective bargaining agreements. Advise business leaders regarding union campaigns and union avoidance. Advise business leaders regarding grievances and matters concerning labor relations. Provide basic advice on immigration issues and manage outside counsel regarding immigration matters. Anticipate issues, estimate risks strategically and identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks. Partner with outside labor and employment counsel to maintain compliance and accomplish goals. Oversee labor and employment litigation.

The candidate should have Bachelor's Degree and 12-15 years of experience or equivalent education and related experience. JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law. 10 years of legal practice experience with a law firm and/or in house legal department, including experience in traditional labor matters, collective bargaining negotiations, and people management experience. Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the legal function or department; ability to provide legal consulting, advice and assistance. Knowledge of and ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from both legal and factual information. Knowledge of domestic and international laws governing commerce and ability to interpret and take action on the aspects of such laws that impact the business. Demonstrated sound business ethics and consistently adhering to and promoting these in all business and personal transactions. Should preferably have prior experience with Teamsters and UFCW. Prior experience with working with a highly regulated industry. Advanced degree in labor relations and/or human resources. Prior experience using Legal Files software and DocuSign. Excellent communication and writing skills. Experience in and understanding of a wide variety of analytical processes (governance, measurement, etc.). Knowledge of other MS Office Suite and/or software applications related to job functions.
