Labor and Employment Counsel The candidate will provide practical L&E legal advice and strategic litigation management across firms U.S. Operations function and manufacturing facilities. Will work closely with firm partners to accomplish the Companys workforce objectives while minimizing risk across various personnel matters, including performance management; reductions in force; talent acquisition; union relations; leaves of absence and accommodations; EEO/affirmative action; employee benefits, compensation and rewards; and learning and development, among other area. Be responsible for managing outside counsel retained to represent firm in L&E litigation and providing L&E support on key business initiatives and human resource projects. Counsel Human Resources on compliance with state and federal employment laws including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, and FMLA; review and update employment policies and plan, including employee handbooks, bonus plans, compensation guidelines, summary plan descriptions and severance programs; train and advise HR on recent developments in employment law; support Labor Relations and factory HR partners in responding to union grievances, ULPs and arbitrations and implementing the Companys union avoidance strategy; conduct legal review (including adverse impact analyses and WARN assessments) of workforce reductions, consolidations and restructurings; ensure wage and hour compliance through overtime, meal and rest break and employee classification audits. Draft and submit position statements, responses to information requests and other responsive submissions in state and federal administrative agencies matters; represent firm in mediations and negotiate and draft settlement and separation agreements; respond to and resolve pre-litigation demands. Oversee outside counsel in L&E matters, including establishing case strategy, reviewing and approving pleadings, discovery responses and dispositive motions and briefs, among other dispute management tasks; manage outside counsel spend to budget.

The candidate should have a JD degree from an accredited law school. Must be a member of the Illinois State Bar in good standing. Superior written and verbal communication skills essential. Should have 5+ years of labor and employment practice; law firm experience. Traditional labor experience required; employee benefits experience or interest preferred. Must have in-depth knowledge of anti-discrimination/harassment/retaliation laws, leave of absence and accommodation obligations, federal and state wage and hour requirements and traditional labor laws (NLRB).
