Senior Counsel, Insurance The candidate will assist in the management of outside counsel on insurance defense matters with a primary focus on the US; management of counsel outside of the US as needed. Analyze claims, pre-litigation, and litigation to effectively participate in decisions related to resolution strategy. Effectively negotiate settlements including all aspects of liability and damages. Coordinate with the Executive, Insurance, and Finance Teams to recommend settlement, litigation, and reserve strategies. Attend hearings and manage trials as needed. Review and revise motions drafted by outside counsel with some drafting required in house as needed. Participate in deposition preparation of lay and expert witnesses. Lead the collection of information internally and cross-functionally to respond to discovery. Manage legal holds. Coordinate with claims personnel and TPA as needed. Manage paralegals and support staff as needed. Provide training to internal stakeholders.

The candidate should have 7-9 years of experience litigating claims/cases arising from property and casualty insurance. In-house experience preferred, with the know-how to manage a case through pleadings, motion practice, discovery, dispute resolution and trial. Must have solid case evaluation abilities, critical thinking skills and the capacity to oversee a large portfolio of matters. Extensive first chair mediation experience and extensive deposition experience required. First or second chair trial experience preferred. Strong academic credentials and law degree from a top law school. Excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills.
