Surety Legal Domestic Manager, Senior Corporate Counsel Duties: Under general direction of an Assistant General Counsel/Surety General Counsel, manages a technically specialized domestic (U.S.) unit within the Surety Legal Department. Provides legal advice and carries out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Surety Business unity while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility. As to domestic matters, responsible for the accomplishment of the unit, department and corporate goals. Sets goals that are in accordance with Corporate and Legal Department goals. Directs staff in the accomplishment of the goals. Provides direction, support and feedback to staff. Evaluates performance and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies. Represents and advises the Company in substantial legal and business transactions which require legal expertise and generally involve a high degree of original and creative legal endeavor, evaluation of complex or novel issues, or vigorous adverse parties. Provides advice and counsel to client department managers participates as requested in the formulation of policy for the Company. Represent the Company on various domestic trade organizations relative to legal, regulatory and developing trends in the Surety industry. Performs comprehensive research and analysis in assigned areas of specialization directs, focuses and refines comprehensive research of others. Representative duties include: Coordinating and assisting in the development of the Companys position in response to changes in the law Representing the Company before legislative, regulatory and administrative bodies in conjunction with client departments, planning legal strategies and as needed coordinating with the Surety Claims department relative to litigated matters. Provides training on legal concepts and preventative law to internal clients, brokers and accounts. Maintains current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law evaluates legal trends for impact on the Company. Qualifications: Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required. Generally requires 15+ years experience as a practicing attorney. Excellent analytic, legal writing and communication skills, familiarity with corporate operations and SBU objectives and demonstrated ability to interact with Company personnel as well as outside counsel and representatives of other companies and adversaries. Requires expert knowledge of a specialized area of law.
