Employment Counsel Duties: Negotiating, writing and oversight of agreements and contracts on behalf of the company. Advising on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities associated with different deals. Researching and anticipating unique legal issues that could impact the company. Reviewing advertising and marketing materials to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirements. Advising and analyzing risk on employment law matters, including hiring, termination, discipline, accommodation, leave, wage and hour compliance, etc. Prepare and deliver training on employment and labor issues to Country and HR Managers on a variety of topics in a timely and useful manner in response to specific legal needs and inquiries. Provide guidance on, drafting and review of Employee Handbook and related policies and procedures. Responsible for Company awareness of US and Canadian legislation affecting employment and labor issues for the business. Assist General Counsel with other matters, as they arise. Manage appointed counsel, including identifying the appropriate legal support, negotiating fees and controlling legal costs.

Qualifications: Law Degree and admission to the State Bar. 5+ years of experience including counseling, training contracts, employment labor legal issues and some litigation. A mix of both in-house corporate and law-firm experience. Understanding of legal and policy issues related to payroll and tax withholding, unemployment insurance, health insurance, and 401k plans. Knowledge of core labor and employment laws and regulations, with specific knowledge of Texas, Louisiana, California and Canada jurisdictions a plus. Experience in drafting and negotiating employee agreements, contracts and other legal documents, including confidentiality and non-compete, agreements, memoranda on legal research, and severance agreements. Experience with employee benefits and knowledge of benefit systems, including operating in a diverse environment, coordinating the services of external legal advisors and attorneys on claims. Must be commercially aware and be able to develop business-led solutions while driving the risk management agenda. Ability to be fully engaged within the business and to communicate at all levels. Excellent attention to detail with a pride taken in producing timely, accurate and well laid out documentation. Proven ability to efficiently manage projects and large volumes of work. Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
