Corporate Counsel, Patents - Electrification Duties: Acts as a trusted advisor for mid to high level management; has strong grasp of business environment; effectively partners with clients to identify and design needed improvements; provides legal as well as practical advice within the appropriate business context; understands and manages client expectations. Assists in development of legal strategies for business and shares in management of outside counsel relationships. May influence or contribute to overall objectives and goals of organization. Demonstrates specialization proficiency in one or more areas of law, specialty or function; acts as a resource to others. Manages/supervises large and/or complex cases and matters worldwide. Responsible for project and matter management with limited supervision; exercises independent judgment. Provides support and leadership in improvement and issue-resolution projects in both the Legal function and within the business units. Recognized as a developing expert in the area of transactions, with particular expertise in intellectual property agreements, including joint development agreements, patent/trademark/copyright licenses and other IP agreements;. The incumbent will work with technical leaders and inventors to support patent applications that provide platforms for new business opportunities or operational improvements. The IP Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the IP in the technical areas of engines, generators, turbos, etc, but will need to understand the companys full technical and IP portfolio to identify areas of overlay. Acts as a trusted advisor to management on legal rights and obligations; has strong grasp of business environment; effectively partners with clients to identify and design needed improvements; provides legal as well as practical advice within the appropriate business context; understands and manages stakeholder expectations. Researches, evaluates and advises management and other attorneys on recent or prospective changes in laws and regulations. Instructs and supervises outside counsel and consultants as needed. Effectively influences and maintains open, collaborative relationships with clients, other business partners and outside stakeholders. May supervise and/or mentor one or more junior lawyers, paralegals or administrative assistants.

Qualifications: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (or similar degree) required. Intellectual property legal experience of 5 years, in a manufacturing organization, law firm, government, in-house or a combination. Strong transactional background, with significant experience negotiating and drafting contracts involving power and electric systems, including battery management systems (BMS), hybrid and electric applications. M&A experience required. Strong knowledge electronic controls software patenting. Patent prosecution is required, and litigation experience is preferred; and. strong background and experience with patent protection of engine technology, software, and battery technologies is highly desirable.
