Assistant General Counsel HR/Litigation The candidate will be responsible for counseling management on employment law compliance and policy issues; advising clients on day-to-day employment law issues including hiring, discipline, terminations, workforce restructurings, performance counseling, employee leaves and benefit issues; evaluating merits of pre-litigation disputes; and identifying matters suitable for resolution through negotiation, mediation or agency conciliation. Will be responsible for management of employment litigation matters, consulting on internal investigations of harassment and other employee complaints, HR training, and reviewing and revising HR policies, procedures and manuals. Will report to the General Counsel of Construction Chemicals Americas. Principal Responsibilities: Serve as employment and compliance counsel supporting the Construction Chemicals Legal and Human Resources Teams. Conduct and lead Compliance Effectiveness Reviews (risk assessments). Oversee and conduct internal investigations into various compliance matters, including those involving potential violations of law, conflicts of interest, and Code of Conduct/other policies. Serve as legal advisor to Human Resources, Corporate Security, Corporate Medical, and Internal Audit. Provide legal support to clients (corporate functions and businesses) in personnel matters (terminations, reductions/reorganizations, leaves of absence etc.), threatened claims, M&A activities, and various agreements with third-parties; NOL Representative to Corporate Threat Assessment Team. Manage litigation regarding employment, benefits and non-competition matters; manage relationships with outside counsel. Additional tasks as directed by the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel. Position has regular interaction with Associate General Counsel (Compliance, Employment & Policies and business leaders; however, expected to make judgments/decisions on an independent basis. Primary responsibility for day to day support of several functions and business units; Position regularly provides counsel to senior business and functions leaders. Interacts with other members of the legal department in the context of compliance, employment law issues, contract, M&A, and other project work. Juris Doctor degree required. 6-10 years of demonstrated expertise in employment law with top law firm and/or corporate law department. Broad legal knowledge with high level of proficiency in the application of legal principles and practices, including employment law, compliance, benefits, and employment/benefits litigation. Experience with federal and state employment statutes. Experience supervising/conducting investigations and managing employment/benefits litigation.
