Counsel - Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Information Governance The candidate responsibilities include: Assist with managing the comprehensive global privacy program that defines, develops, maintains and implements policies and processes that enable consistent, effective privacy practices which minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of protected information across the organization. Serve as a resource to Gilead s contracting functions to ensure successful negotiation of data privacy related contract terms in its operational agreements across a wide spectrum of vendors typical to the biopharma industry. Support procedures for vetting and auditing vendors for compliance with the privacy and data security policies and legal requirements. Support coordination with appropriate regulating bodies to ensure that programs, policies and procedures are consistent with law and regulations. Advise on best practices and compliance with global privacy and data protection laws, including by supporting a privacy by design approach and overseeing legal and regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, data security and breaches, and the use of location-based services, biometrics and emerging technologies. Support process for receiving, documenting, investigating and reporting unauthorized access or disclosure of protected information. Maintain corporate privacy policies, procedures, and infrastructure. Assist in the development of and deliver privacy training materials and other communications to increase employee understanding of company privacy policies, data handling practices and procedures, and legal obligations. Coordinate with business teams to ensure awareness of best practices on privacy and data security issues. Serve as privacy resource to the organization regarding release of information and to all departments for all privacy related issues. Work with attorneys and contract specialists on data privacy related contract terms, develop standard fall back positions and escalation processes for its operational agreements.

The candidate must be admitted to the California bar or another U.S. state bar and in good standing. should have J.D. with preferred 4 years privacy experience. CIPP certification preferred. Knowledge of U.S. and European privacy laws regulations and best practices is required. Must have knowledge and legal experience with related to information governance. Must have proven track record of project and process development, implementation and project management. Must be results-oriented, proactive, responsible and pragmatic with a passion to solve complex problems in creative, efficient and cost-effective way and to translate global compliance environments into actionable policies and processes that enable business objectives. Should have experience working in complex organizational context, often without formal authority, in a highly matrixed environment. Must have ability to understand and adapt to emerging technologies. should have excellent communication skills and outstanding interpersonal skills.
