Director, Employment Counsel The candidate will report to the VP of Legal / Deputy General Counsel and will be responsible for providing day-to-day legal expertise on a wide range of employment law matters and proactively manage compliance with employment statutes and regulations.The person must possess strong self-starting qualities. The successful candidate will be able to handle sensitive situations tactfully yet firmly, to be assertive without being adversarial and to take unpopular positions when necessary while maintaining trust and credibility. This position requires a team player who can thrive in a fast-moving environment. Be a trusted legal advisor to the organization on sensitive and wide-ranging global employment law matters including hiring and recruiting, employee relations, discipline, investigations, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation, terminations, labor, benefits, workforce restructuring activities, M&A and related matters. Partner with internal stakeholders to determine strategy and approach on employment-related policies, guidelines, and processes with an approach that balances pragmatism, risk, and compliance. Defend employment-related claims, including managing outside counsel in litigation globally, responding to administrative claims from governmental agencies and demands from attorneys. Negotiate resolution of claims. Collaborate with cross-functional partners and project teams to support and maintain employment compliance in the US and globally. Draft agreements, including severance, separation, restrictive covenant, retention and other employment-related agreements. Monitor important developments in employment law in jurisdictions across the country, striving to spot trends in their infancy. Consistently anticipate, identify, and provide timely evaluation of potential employment law risks. Advise Human Resources and other business partners of risks and develop and propose mitigation strategies. Lead or provide advice and guidance on internal investigations.

The candidate should have Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. At least 7 years of relevant experience. Current member in good standing of the California or any state bar or a California Registered In-House Counsel. Demonstrated global employment law experience, both advice and litigation. Strong interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication skills in all interactions with senior management, corporate departments and all levels of employees. Proven ability to analyze employment law matters of all levels of complexity, and exercise sound judgment in balancing legal risks and business needs. Developed business acumen, with ability to understand the company's business and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings. Demonstrated ability to provide timely, responsive advice in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work at times of day necessary to support global operations as needed. Should preferably have Employment law experience at a law firm. Prior in-house work experience. Track record of working efficiently with a client-service focus in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
