Refer job# FMRE149810

Senior Director/Counsel, Global Privacy and Data Policy Duties: In close partnership with the Corporate Vice President for Privacy and Regulatory Affairs, develop Microsoft's positions on privacy and data policy matters affecting our business, our customers, and the technology sector, and implement supporting advocacy strategies. Communicate to Microsoft leaders about privacy and data policy trends and their implications for business; and provide similar insights to customers and other stakeholders. Serve as one of primary advocates on privacy and data policy issues, including the evolution of privacy and data protection law, the policy infrastructure underlying global data flows, and the policy implications of data's central role in digital transformation. Engage with regulators, policymakers and other key stakeholders in the United States and around the world, to develop and advance Microsoft's privacy policies, and speak at public events and meetings with public and private sector leaders, often in close partnership with the Chief Privacy Officer and other Microsoft executives. Set and drive strategy for a distributed team of experienced policy professionals and provide focused and empathetic leadership as a people manager.

Qualifications: Advanced degree(s) in a relevant discipline, ideally law or public policy, is required. 10+ years of relevant experience that includes the development and execution of public policy strategies to address complex and rapidly evolving issues at the intersection of technology, law, ethics, and society. Highly developed written and oral communication skills. Proven experience in written communications is essential, with demonstrated experience in proactively advancing positions through high impact written communications and personal engagement in small and/or large group settings. Experience as an external presenter is also desirable. A proven track record of being able to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders, both within a company and externally. A key attribute will be the ability to work across multiple disciplines and cultures, since the privacy and data policy domains necessarily requires engagement with government agencies, technology companies, advocacy groups, and other relevant stakeholders around the globe. A strong record of being an effective team player dedicated to collective successes. The ability to promote cooperation and solve problems in a timely, creative, and professional manner. The ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to rapidly changing environments and demands.
