Labor and Employment Counsel Responsibilities: Provides day-to-day strategic legal and business advice on various management decisions and initiatives; Advise in all areas of employment and labor law matters, including hiring practices, termination issues, discrimination and harassment, layoffs and plant closures, disability and accommodation issues, corporate compliance, interpreting and applying employment policies, workplace investigations, employee discipline issues, and negotiating and preparing employment contracts; Represent the Company in both litigation and/or administrative proceedings before various courts and administrative agencies, including the EEOC and NLRB; Work closely with in-house and external legal counsel to manage wrongful dismissal, harassment/discrimination and other employment-related claims in judicial proceedings; Provide advice regarding compliance with occupational health, safety and environmental requirements and Magna specific safety and environmental policies and practices; Develop and provide training programs in all areas of employment and labor law to support Company managers and supervisors; Advise on matters relating to collective bargaining agreements and labor relations matters; Act as a supporting member of the Company bargaining committee, including researching and costing proposals and preparing and/or reviewing drafts of collective agreements language. Ensure that negotiations are properly documented; Educate management on negotiated CBA changes and assist with implementation where required; Coordinate the Company response to any union organizing activity; Draft and review employment policies and Employee Handbooks; Develop, maintain and continuously improve the effectiveness of the departmental policies and procedures; Perform all job functions in a safe, healthful and environmentally conscious manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations as outlined in the company handbook; and Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: Law degree and admitted to practice law in at least one state. 7 10 years of work-related experience. The ability to work under pressure, to communicate in an effective and non-technical manner and to apply good business judgment as well as strong analytical, research, drafting, negotiating and organizational skills are essential. Trial work, collective bargaining and managing a union relationship a plus.
