Director, Employment Law and Privacy Counsel The candidate provides day-to-day legal advice regarding a wide range of activities and programs related to employment, labor and human resources activities. Advises clients on a wide array of employment law issues, including recruitment and hiring, personnel classification, wage and hour issues, restrictive covenants, leaves of absence and accommodations, compensation and benefits, performance management, disciplinary actions and terminations. Collaborates with Human Resources and other departments to establish and regularly revise employment-related policies, procedures and handbooks. Develops subject-matter expertise on company policies and procedures and delivers training for managers and individual contributors on a variety of employment law topics. Investigates and helps resolve employee relations issues and complaints. Maintains current substantive knowledge and proactively updates Human Resources and other clients on relevant legislative and regulatory developments and best practices. Partners with IT, HR, Compliance and other individuals with privacy and data handling responsibilities in the organization to help set strategy and manage privacy matters. Suggests means of promoting compliance with data protection and privacy laws and regulations affecting business activities primarily in the United States. Monitors privacy trends in data protection and privacy laws and regulations (e.g., evolving guidance out of the European Union, California Privacy Act, CAN-SPAM and e-privacy developments). Develops and implement related policies, practices, and training programs in coordination with global legal colleagues, and help business stakeholders to understand and address data protection and privacy issues as they emerge. Identifies and communicates to client s risks associated with day-to-day operational business activities, including training clients on applicable legal issues within lawyer's expertise. Partners with clients to proactively apply legal and regulatory framework to business activity by understanding business goals and developing alternative solutions to assist in the achievement of successful outcomes. Negotiates on behalf of, and partners with, clients to achieve solutions consistent with business objectives. Builds constructive working relationships with client base and operates as an active member of legal and client teams. Coordinates legal matters handled by outside counsel. Performs other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

The candidate should have JD degree and Bar admittance in New Jersey (or eligibility for limited in-house license). Should have 8+ years of legal experience representing life sciences companies. In-house, public company experience preferred. Experience in labor, employment and human resources matters in a pharma/biotech or supporting pharma/biotech is required. Working knowledge of privacy-related issues essential. Experience in developing policies and procedures for employment and human resources matters and providing related training needed. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
