Corporate Counsel - Product Liability

Corporate Counsel - Product Liability The candidate will advise the company on matters involving automotive product liability, including litigation strategy and management of litigation work flows, which will require significant interaction with external counsel as well as responsible attorneys and technical staff at the manufacturers. As the Company and the manufacturers develop new products and functionalities that raise product liability and/or safety issues, will work closely with the relevant business areas and manufacturers to advise regarding U.S. legal requirements. Will also support the Company regarding automotive regulatory matters and supervise legal staff and others as required. Advise the Company in connection with automotive product liability and class action matters, including asbestos litigation, and manage litigation work flows, interacting with external counsel on strategy and execution of litigation in various U.S. jurisdictions. Review and comment on litigation documents prepared by counsel; attend depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials. Coordinate with responsible business units and counterparts in the Legal departments in Europe and Mexico. Review publications, manuals and advertising materials from a product liability and safety standpoint. Coordinate and oversee technical input to product liability litigation and related research tasks. Provide feedback of information gained from product liability to departments responsible for design and development activities. Provide support on automotive regulatory matters, including NHTSA regulations and TREAD reporting. Supervise lawyers, legal assistants and others working in the automotive product liability defense area. Provide support to business groups responsible for handling customer complaints and claims.

The candidate should have Bachelor and Law Degrees from top-tier institutions. Should have 5-7 Years practicing. Membership in good standing in the State Bar of Virginia, or qualifications to become admitted without examination is required. Automotive product liability experience is needed. Should preferable have German language skills. Automotive or consumer product regulatory experience is desired. Asbestos litigation experience is needed.
