Claims And Litigation Counsel The candidate will be responsible for: Provide advice and analysis on reinsurance and insurance claims. Provide analysis and advice on reinsurance treaty provisions related to claims, litigation and arbitration. Manage litigation and arbitration matters. Advise internal clients on issues and matters for litigation and arbitration proceedings and related risk. Manage and oversee outside counsel. Responsibility for all court, agency or regulator-related matters such as summonses, subpoenas, garnishments, bankruptcies, third-party depositions and class action claims. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have Law degree from a U.S. accredited law school. Should have Bachelor's degree from a U.S. accredited university. Must have 5+ years of experience involving meaningful responsibilities in each of the following: Courtroom litigation experience trying or defending lawsuits generally; Experience handling insurance or reinsurance claims defense matters (not necessarily life or group health); Depositions, including deponent preparation and defense. Must have active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state and a member in good standing of the bar. Experience in a legal or claims role with a direct insurance company preferred. Experience with alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation and settlement negotiations desired. Experience managing outside counsel including directing scope of work and strategy, fee arrangements, budgets, costs and invoice review and approval a plus. Familiarity with reinsurance generally desired. Experience reviewing and analyzing reinsurance claims a plus. Familiarity with reinsurance treaty terms and interpretation desired. Experience with insurance, contract, collection, bankruptcy, probate, estate and guardianship law preferred. Current or previous employment with a law firm a plus.
