Intellectual Property Counsel Responsibilities: Provide strategic counsel to the business regarding the competitive IP landscape for the company's current product portfolio, as well as future product candidates and technology plans. Identify patentable inventions through frequent interactions with internal and external R&D project teams. Manage outside and in-house counsel in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the USPTO and abroad through foreign counsel. Educate and advise colleagues on intellectual property issues and intellectual property documents (e.g., license agreement, research agreement), as well as best practices.

Qualifications: 4 years of intellectual property law experience, including time at a top-tier firm servicing the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or chemical industries. In-house legal experience in a biotechnology, chemical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical or consumer products company is preferred. An advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in the biological sciences (molecular biology or biochemistry preferred) is required. State bar and USPTO registration is required. JD Degree or equivalent. Active member of at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred). Registered to practice before the USPTO. Strong track record of successfully building complex patent portfolios. Experience managing both in-house and outside counsel in the drafting and prosecution of biotechnology-related patent applications. Comfortable counseling and meeting the needs of multiple internal clients. Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage and drive projects cross-functionally across departments. Strong prioritization skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and quickly adjust to shifting priorities and/or demanding deadlines when necessary.
