Employment and Benefits Attorney Duties: Give timely, thorough and accurate counsel and strategic advice to the company in all areas of employment law, including EEO, anti-harassment and retaliation, wage and hour, leave rights, Americans with Disabilities Act, wrongful termination, disciplinary issues, co-employment, and non-competition issues. Counsel clients in connection with ongoing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives and act in support of those goals while ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Address matters involving labor relations in connection with the company's unionized workforce, such as legal support for collective bargaining negotiations, contract administration and representing the company in union arbitrations. Develop well-researched and documented recommendations to clients related to employment-related matters, including ongoing knowledge of changes in the legislative or regulatory environment. Apply a demonstrated history of drafting and negotiating a wide variety of employment-related contracts and other sophisticated legal documents. Advise on the company's executive compensation programs. Supervise and manage outside counsel in employment-related litigation. Support the company's defined benefit and defined contribution plans, both qualified and non-qualified. Attend and provide legal representation at the company's Benefits Administration Committee meetings. Provide legal support and advice in drafting, reviewing and editing various plan-related documents, including summary plan descriptions. Exercise exceptional legal and analytical skills; understand the importance of client objectives and display excellent judgment in advising clients. Be comfortable serving as a single point of contact who pulls in subject-matter experts as necessary and allocates projects to staff at appropriate levels in the legal department. Possess the skills to identify legal and business risks, and recommend concise, clear and practical options to clients, while recognizing that risk-free solutions are infrequent. Work independently while having a collaborative mindset; in addition to working under pressure, show initiative, understand how to prioritize assignments, and embrace a fast-paced environment. Communicate comfortably with senior management as well as employees across all levels and areas of the company. Maintain confidentiality commensurate with the sensitive nature of this work.

Requirements: A Law Degree from an accredited law school. Excellent academic credentials. Licensed to practice law in Michigan, or eligibility for timely admission without examination. 2+ years of legal experience in employment law as described above. Performance of compliance audits or otherwise working with the DOL, IRS, and Health & Human Services. Experience in employment litigation. Significant work with ERISA matters.
