Director and Senior Counsel, Healthcare Privacy Responsibilities: Provides development guidance and assists in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of organization information privacy policies and procedures in coordination with organization management and administration, and legal counsel. Identifies gaps in existing policies and processes and takes proactive action to address them. Creates and contribute to the creation of companywide privacy policies, requirements, guidelines and processes. Defines, deploys and manages privacy policies, statements, requirements, guidelines, patters and processes to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and privacy policies. Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the entity's other compliance and operational assessment functions. Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring of all trading partner and business associate agreements, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed. Oversees, directs, delivers, or ensures delivery of initial and privacy training and orientation to all employees, volunteers, medical and professional staff, contractors, alliances, business associates, and other appropriate third parties. Ensure accountability and company-wide compliance with privacy policies adopted within Walgreens. Collaborates with legal counsel and management, key departments, and committees to ensure the organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent, authorization forms, and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements. Collaborates with applicable organization units in overseeing rights to inspect, amend, and restrict access to protected information, when appropriate. Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to foster information privacy awareness within the organization and related entities. Reviews all system-related information security plans throughout the organization's network to ensure alignment between security and privacy practices, and acts as a liaison to the information systems department. Works with all organization personnel involved with any aspect of release of protected information, to ensure full coordination and cooperation under the organization's policies and procedures and legal requirements. Establishes with management and operations a mechanism to track access to all protect information, within the purview of the organization and as required by law and to allow qualified individuals to review or receive a report on such activity, if required. Leads cross-functional teams to share knowledge and ensure cross-company communication on important privacy matters. Monitors and reports privacy compliance status and key privacy risks as well as noteworthy trends and changes in business environment. Actively drives and follows up on the implementation, assessment, correction and evolution of privacy requirements for Walgreens. Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards, and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance. Serves as information privacy consultant to the organization for all departments and appropriate entities. Mentors, coaches less experienced team members.

Qualifications: JD Degree and 5+ years of experience in a corporate privacy role OR a Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in a corporate privacy role. Experience with privacy laws, regulations, frameworks and industry practices. Experience assembling, engaging, and lead cross-functional teams. Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels within an organization. Experience identifying and satisfying privacy obligations while still meeting business needs. Experience leading regulatory implementation projects from conception to completion. Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget. 3+ years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets. 3+ years of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members. Preferred: CIPP or CIPM certification. Experience in information privacy laws, access, release of information, and release control technologies. Knowledge of the principles of health information management. 3+ years of experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
