Litigation and Compliance Counsel The candidate will manage litigation, claims and disputes and advise stakeholders on such matters and, in partnership with key stakeholders across the company, assist in implementing and advancing firm's legal Compliance program. Examine data and determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting a lawsuit, preparing the case to take to trial if settlements cannot be reached. Manage discovery and factual development of litigation and claims, including the collection, retention, and production of documents; interview company employees; draft written objections and responses to discovery requests; monitor dockets and track deadlines; create timelines and other summaries; and effectively partner with the business on all such matters. Oversee responses to subpoenas and other requests for information, including third party subpoenas, government and/or agency subpoenas, or other requests for information. Litigate cases independently, either by handling directly, by retaining and managing outside counsel, or by acting as co-counsel with outside counsel. Manage external counsel in accordance with outside counsel guidelines, within specified budgetary limits, and in line with management's expectations. Work collaboratively across the Legal Services vertical and all of Legal, particularly Legal Operations, to build consensus on process improvements and drive legal projects to completion. Coordinate with firm's insurance broker and carriers to assure proper notice as required under firm's policies, track status of claims and defend rights to coverage as needed. Provide guidance and oversight to Legal team members providing support on legal holds and litigation reporting. Participate in cross-functional internal teams (e.g., Finance, IT, Internal Audit, Legal) reviewing business processes that affect company's Compliance program. Periodically review, revise and supplement legal compliance policies, and monitor to ensure they appropriately reflect legal and regulatory developments and industry best practices. Perform enterprise compliance risk assessments together with leaders from other departments to identify areas of potential compliance vulnerability and risk and develop and implement action plans for mitigation of compliance risk. Develop compliance work plans and presenting regularly to company leadership within areas of responsibility. Coordinate delivery of compliance-related services by outside vendors and counsel. Lead/oversee workplace investigations.

The candidate should have a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and admission to, and good standing with, a state bar. Can be licensed in any state. 7+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department. Hands-on prior experience with all aspects of litigation including motion practice, discovery dispute and trial preparation. Copyright or intellectual property experience preferred. Ability to collaborate with colleagues and take a business-oriented approach while identifying and balancing risks and providing succinct, accurate and pragmatic advice. Exceptional analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and risk assessment skills. Independent judgment, attention to detail, a desire to learn, and an ability to take on and prioritize a wide variety of complex matters while meeting tight deadlines. Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
