In House Counsel, Labor & Employment Duties: Advise Human Resources Department and other business clients regarding compliance with all requirements in the area of labor, employment and benefits. Advise and partner with People Services Department and other business clients regarding Company policies affecting the Company's relationships with its employee's vendors, customers and other third parties. Represent the company in hearings, administrative proceedings, negotiations, and other forums. Develop strong partnership with executive management, senior management from other corporate departments, and stores. Represent all departments and locations on enterprise-level issues both internally and externally. Partner with business clients to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain confidentiality. Assist with the development of standardized processes and procedures for the organization in identified practice area(s). Assist with the development and management of policies and procedures regarding labor and employment issues. Maintain awareness of existing laws and regulations and identify changes to the regulatory landscape and legal trends that may impact Company's business operations or jeopardize its strategies, and communicate with appropriate personnel and develop ways to respond. Anticipate and assess legal and other risks to the Company, and devise appropriate measures to avoid or reduce those risks while furthering the successful execution of its strategies and achievement of its goal. Ensure that legal and regulatory requirements, as well as Company's ethical expectations, are communicated and that compliance is maintained. Interact directly with Senior Business leaders, both orally and in writing, to keep them apprised of significant matters and developments. Assist with the management and direction of the defense of a range of litigation and claims against the Company. Assist in responding to regulatory inspections and investigations. Determine when specialized outside counsel is needed, and select, retain and direct all activities of outside counsel to optimize results and minimize costs.

Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. degree. JD degree and admission to the practice law (i.e. licensure). 5-7 years of focused labor and employment experience with a major law firm or an in-house legal department. Experience with a retail company with a significant store footprint. Experience providing advice and counsel and handling litigation related to all aspects of employment law, including compliance with federal, state and local laws concerning discrimination, harassment, wage and hour matters. Working knowledge of compensation, recruiting, immigration, workers compensation, ERISA, HIPAA, wrongful discharge and other related torts and benefits law. Experience providing advice and counsel on labor law issues, including union avoidance, unfair labor practices, picketing, boycotts and injunctions. Ability to provide sound and practical legal advice, with proven success and experience with balancing legal risk with business objectives. Sound judgment and business acumen. An imaginative approach to problem solving and the ability to find alternative ways to achieve business objectives that remain consistent with legal and ethical standards. High degree of discretion with ability to maintain confidences. Able to take action as appropriate (neither prematurely nor too late, and in a manner on scale to the issue). Adept at recognizing when special expertise is needed, and possessing the confidence to seek help but with the ability to independently reach conclusions. Able to forge positive partnerships with other business stakeholders. Presentation experience and skills required. Excellent communication skills, specifically able to explain complex issues to non-lawyers. Strong administrative and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with, and manage, outside counsel. Ability to work effectively with a broad range of individuals with various skills and abilities. Effectively able to work collaboratively with others.
