Senior Counsel, Labor and Employment The candidate will assist with of all types of legal and business matters. Spend most of their time handling employment law matters related to company's retail stores, corporate offices and distribution centers. The position reports to the Vice President, Assistant General Counsel. Provide responses to state and federal administrative agencies, including the EEOC, state and local human rights agencies, the Department of Labor, OFCCP, other labor and employment related agencies. Demonstrated effectiveness in the practice of employment and labor with particular emphasis on NLRA / union issues, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, USERRA, FLSA, and employment-related torts and litigation. Provide advice and counsel on issues related to the ADAFMLA, USERRA, state and federal wage and hour laws, state and federal employment discrimination statutes, FLSA, equal pay, corporate separateness and contingent workers' issues, affirmative action and diversity, drug-free workplace, NLRA claims, general union relations and contract negotiations, strike support, employee discipline and termination, restructuring, whistleblower laws, wrongful discharge claims, drafting employment agreements and policies, employment compliance issues, and other labor and employment law matters. Support NMG's internal investigations team and other stakeholders (HR, Finance, internal audit, business leaders) on internal investigations.

The candidate must have J.D. degree and undergraduate degrees earned with superior academic credentials. Must have admission to and good standing in any State Bar or the District of Columbia Bar. Must have significant L&E experience at a law firm, company, or in a government practice with an established labor and employment practice. Must have superior analytical and writing skills and compelling oral communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and document transactions. Must have ability to direct and manage activities of, and relationships with, outside counsel. Must have vision and experience in strategic initiatives beyond tactical implementation. Must have ability to balance legal and business needs, assessing appropriate risk to make tough decisions. Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with strong follow-up. Must have able to work effectively with all levels of the organization. Must possess high-level written and verbal communication skills, and excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. Must have maintain working knowledge of company policies, state and federal legislation. Strong academic credentials and training at a major national law firm is preferred. Demonstrated effectiveness in the practice of employment and labor with particular emphasis on NLRA / union issues, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, USERRA, FLSA, and employment-related torts and litigation is desired. Experience with class actions is a plus.
