International Privacy Counsel Duties: Act as a key internal point-of-contact and subject matter expert on all matters relating to ex-US privacy law, including providing practical, timely, strategic, and high-quality legal advice on data privacy and security matters. Appropriately triage a moderate workflow, setting appropriate priorities with clients and delivering results within the reasonable agreed timelines. Advise members of the legal and business teams on best practices and compliance with global data protection laws, including legal and regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, consent forms, and related issues. Contributes to the improvement of standard forms of agreements, alternate language playbooks, and internal resource documents with respect to privacy and data processing matters. Provide advice, education, training, and legal direction on data protection laws impacting business operations and contractual relationships. Provide legal support for the strategic reviewing, drafting, and negotiating of privacy and data security terms in contracts with business partners and vendors, including data processing addendums and data protection terms in research agreements. Advance a positive spirit of solution-oriented partnership and collaboration with internal clients, internal legal colleagues and outside counsel. Exercise mature and reliable judgment while enjoying the company's enthusiastic, informal and fast-paced environment. Requirements: JD Degree from a nationally accredited law school. 7+ years' prior in-house or law firm experience providing legal counsel on the laws and regulations relating to biotech/pharma industry. Expertise in areas of applicable global privacy and data protection laws (in depth knowledge of GDPR, working knowledge of APPI, PIPEDA). Completion of an Information Access and/or Protection of Privacy Certificate Program or other related certifications is an asset (i.e., CIPP/E, CIPT or CIPM). Strong verbal and written business communication skills: highly adept at synthesizing and summarizing complex and/or voluminous content into clear, concise and actionable communication or training. Strong influencing skills: proven track record and experience building and cultivating relationships with key partners and stakeholders across organizational levels. Must have demonstrated high EQ and client-service orientation; able to recognize and respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations and demanding clients. Ability to work under fast-paced conditions, comfortable making decisions and demonstrates good judgment. Strong process-orientation: has proven effectiveness in identifying, developing and implementing scalable/sustainable process and other continuous improvements to achieve organizational efficiencies and increase effectiveness. Strong project management skills: can prioritize multiple tasks and goals to ensure timely, on-target and within-budget accomplishments. Committed team player while taking initiative to get results with minimal supervision.
