Lead Privacy Counsel The candidate will handle complex legal assignments under minimal supervision and provide guidance and oversight for the legal positions of the privacy team. Directs a team of U.S. privacy lawyers. Provides direction, support and feedback to staff. Evaluates performance and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies. Providing global privacy legal advice and privacy input on business projects and initiatives, participating in the formulation of privacy policy for the company. Coordinating and assisting in the development of the Company's position in response to changes in the law. Performs comprehensive research and analysis in assigned areas of specialization and directs, and refines comprehensive research of others. Providing advice regarding the implications of new laws substantially impacting the Company's business. Represents and advises the Company in legal and business transactions which require legal expertise and generally involve a high degree of original and creative legal endeavor, evaluation of complex or novel issues, or vigorous adverse parties. Supporting cross-company global projects involving personal information. Conducting privacy impact assessments and monitoring risk mitigation measures. Drafting and reviewing legal documents including third party vendor agreements to include privacy controls, data transfer agreements, and privacy notices and policies. Provide legal guidance related to record retention. Provide legal guidance and review of subject access rights process. Identifying privacy training needs of Company personnel; develops and delivers training through various mechanisms including written materials, classroom and staff presentations.

The candidate should have at least twelve(12) years of experience as a practicing lawyer including eight(8) years of US and international privacy experience. Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States or of a jurisdiction recognized by Massachusetts required. CIPP/US or CIPP/EU certification preferred. Prior experience managing a team preferred. Must be able to work independently, to build systems and processes, and to collaborate with legal, privacy, and information security colleagues around the world. Requires expert knowledge of global privacy laws, including US and EU data protection laws, preferred at least 8 years as a practicing privacy attorney. Ability to assess risk strategically and help clients find solutions that enable them to mitigate risk while achieving their goals. Program/project management skills, including the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects. Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
