Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property, Marking & Coding Duties: Work with the business and technical staff to develop and protect IP, drive freedom to operate processes, understand competitor IP, and educate and counsel management and technical staff on key IP issues; defining and executing business-specific IP processes and strategies to support a culture of innovation, including working with business and technical leaders to maximize competitive advantage through IP (equipment, consumables, software, workflows and connected devices). Drive IP creation, filing and enforcement. Support third party technology development and/or Open Innovation commercialization efforts. Support M&A activities from due diligence through integration. Support commercial contracts organization with respect to IP issues. Manage trademark portfolio and make recommendations on trademark strategy. Collaborate with IP and Innovation Colleagues in other businesses to drive process improvements.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Physical Science. JD degree from a US law school with top academic performance. Registered to practice before the USPTO. Licensed to practice law in at least one State, plus able to fulfill the requirements to become licensed promptly in Illinois. 8-10 years of legal experience specifically focused on patent and intellectual property work; working experience in a reputable law firm or in a multinational company, or combination of the two. In house experience preferred. Strong scientific and business acumen with the capacity to rapidly learn the businesses strategies and technical platforms. Experience leading business decisions on IP strategy, prosecution and litigation is important. Ability to present complex, technical or difficult messages clearly and persuasively at all levels of the organization. Ability to influence positively across functions, different companies, geographies, and management levels, but also leads and accomplishes by doing. This is a hands-on role where both tactical execution and longer-term strategy are important. Experience managing a budget to achieve business objectives.
