Privacy Counsel

Privacy Counsel Duties: On a daily basis, help surface, scope and drive privacy work streams related to ensuring compliance with domestic and international privacy laws, while incorporating privacy-by-design principles and collaborating closely with other teams across the organization. Provide consistent support and practical, measured advice to team members across the organization to inform thoughtful decision-making and enable those team members and the broader team to thrive. Assist in the review and assessment of new products, features, and uses of personal data to ensure compliance with data privacy laws and regulations and industry best practices. Assist with maintaining and updating privacy notices as required and appropriate. Partner with customer experience team in actioning privacy rights requests and refining policies and procedures related to rights requests. Monitor and anticipate developments in the regulatory landscape and help implement any changes required by new privacy laws or regulations. Opportunity to broaden experience by contributing to other aspects of sophisticated in-house counsel work.

Qualifications: An attorney licensed to practice law in California or New York. 3-7 years of experience as an attorney advising on complex and high-stakes matters. 2+ years of experience counseling on and building knowledge of US and international privacy frameworks. Passionate about privacy and privacy law. Intellectually curious and deeply interested in technology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Enjoys helping others and has a can-do attitude. Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Excellent at multitasking and managing competing priorities. Appreciates nuance and talent for issue spotting but does not suffer from analysis paralysis. Adept at seeing around corners and anticipating risk. Nice-to-Haves: Substantial experience with one or more of the CCPA, CPRA, COPPA, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, PIPEDA, CASL, and LGPD. Experience advising product teams. Interest in project management or project management experience. Undergraduate STEM major or coursework related to technology.
