Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment Duties: Supports the VP & General Counsel in overseeing the legal aspects of the organization. Implements short/long-term strategies at the direction of the VP & General Counsel that may impact the organization's legal function. Recognizes when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the VP & General Counsel. Interprets and prepares legal documents; advocates Company interests in assigned matters; analyzes proposed and existing legislation; reviews, advises and assists with Company policies; monitors and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies; advises management on legal matters to guard the organization against legal liability. Responsible for providing in-house counsel on labor and employment-related matters, which may include: Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and negotiations; Discrimination against employees based on age, ancestry, color, creed, disability, marital status, medical conditions, national origin, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation; Employee benefits like leaves of absence and retirement plans; Grievances and arbitrations; Human Resources related issues; Labor relations; Policy and employment agreements; Privacy rights. Harassment and sexual harassment. Termination of employment. Wage, hour laws and overtime standards (FLMA). Workers compensation. Workplace safety. Unemployment and other state agency claims. Identifies and assesses legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area and advises accordingly. Educates clients and stakeholders on legal matters, policies and procedures. Independently handles legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex. May coordinate, supervise, and/or manage legal efforts with the Company's outside counsel, including on litigation and employment-related matters. May lead cross-functional teams or projects. Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues.

Qualifications: JD degree required. 7-10 years of experience, with substantive labor & employment and litigation experience in a corporate legal department and/or a nationally recognized law firm. Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Oral and written communication skills. Research skills. Judgment. Leadership skills. Admission to Illinois Bar.
