Corporate Counsel The candidate will patent portfolio management, including invention harvesting and working with external counsel to have patent applications drafted and prosecuted; IP risk management, including management of conflict matters and post-grant procedures; IP enforcement against third parties; IP agreements counselling and support; and General IP counselling, will be primarily focused on developing and implementing a strategy for the effective enforcement of Caterpillar's intellectual property rights against third parties. The candidate will also be involved in guiding patent obtaining efforts to maximize the value created from Caterpillar's worldwide portfolio. Must have a relevant background (such as mechanical/electrical/physics) and be a qualified patent attorney. Whether your experience has been in-house or in private practice, you must demonstrate strong commercial judgement, excellent communication skills, and must also be prepared to undertake occasional business travel. Requires a law degree, with and Active Bar admission in any U.S. state 8+ years of legal experience, preferably with a large law firm or in-house at a large company, Active USPTO Bar admission, Strong technical abilities, Experience enforcing patent or other intellectual property rights are required. Experience with implementing and/or managing global patent initiatives/processes, Ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally, across levels and various business functions, and with external parties, The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organizations, Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with demonstrated ability to impact, influence, and negotiate with internal and external resources, Results-oriented - willing to take initiative, identify risks, make decisions, and take action to resolve IP related problems and improve IP related results, Experience related to drafting and negotiating intellectual property licensing, development and settlement agreements, Experience related to resolving intellectual property conflicts, Deep understanding of the practical leveraging of intellectual property in industry, Experience in heavy machinery industries, Substantial international legal experience regarding intellectual property, Experience managing intellectual property litigation are required.
