Litigation and Compliance Counsel Duties: Advising on and assisting with a diverse range of pre-litigation, litigation, and compliance-related matters involving virtually every aspect of operations. Managing outside counsel and coordinating with Risk Management on all claims and litigation and providing guidance to internal business partners on defense strategy and settlement decisions. Establishing internal claims and litigation best practices. Drafting, managing and maintaining internal litigation management forms, training, tools and resources. Reporting claim status and settlement information to Asset Management and Senior Executive teams. Reviewing settlement agreements, discovery, pleadings and related documents. Attending mediations, arbitrations and settlement conferences, as needed. Coordinating with Asset Management on landlord/tenant disputes, evictions, collections, condemnations and tenant bankruptcies. Assisting with other claims and litigation related duties, as required. Developing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining compliance program. Assisting with the integration of compliance program into its operations. Coordinating resources to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the compliance program. Assisting with or presenting periodic reports on the operation of the compliance program to the Board of Directors and Senior Executive team.

Qualifications: JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school and admission in good standing to a State Bar (California preferred). 6+ years of diverse claims and litigation experience in a variety of jurisdictions and venues preferred (primary substantive areas include premises liability, contract breach/real estate collections, employment, negligent care, wrongful death, and Fair Housing/ADA defense); experience in both federal and state courts, as well as ADR settings, desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Ability to manage detailed and complex litigation matters and other legal projects. Superior verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills. Ability to translate litigation and compliance experience into actionable risk mitigation practices and strategies. Compliance experience, with managed healthcare experience a plus; familiarity with compliance management system principles and best practices. State and federal regulatory enforcement experience desired. Long-term care or equivalent healthcare-specific experience desired. Familiarity with counsel engagement practices and ability to evaluate counsel qualitatively and quantitatively. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within teams, including strong organizational and project management skills. Strong executive presence.
