Counsel, Coverage & Litigation - P&C Responsibilities: Advise company executives and claims professionals on complex coverage matters, including policy interpretation, coverage trends and extra-contractual exposures. Research, analyze and advise on case law, statutes and regulations appliable to referred coverage matters. Draft legal memoranda and opinions on coverage matters referred by claims team. Oversee and manage outside counsel on litigation arising out of coverage disputes. Develop and implement cost effective legal strategies on complex coverage and litigation matters. Manage litigation brought by and against the company from pre-suit to trial, including assistance with preparing designated fact and corporate witnesses, attending mediations. Provide reports and feedback on outside counsel performance and panel counsel recommendations. Advise on and participate in roundtables with Claims, Underwriting and Product Development leaders to improve policy wordings, coverage impact and Serve as member of Product Innovation working group Prepare and participate in round-table discussions regarding case strategy and development. Prepare periodic reports to management regarding counsel performance and recommended panel counsel changes. Provide trainings to claims and underwriting teams on specific coverage issues, trends and best practices. Qualifications: JD Degree and admission to New York or New Jersey Bar. 8-10 years of legal experience in claims and/or coverage. Strong knowledge of insurance law and legal research skills. Strong knowledge of claims function and insurance coverage comprehension Experience with underwriting, claims and coverage a plus. Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented. Ability to distill and articulate complex legal concepts into clear and plain English clients can readily understand and apply. Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic developing environment Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative and energetic style are essential. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills and an eagerness to learn. Desire to learn and gain exposure to new areas critical.
