Director, Labor and Employment Attorney

Director, Labor and Employment Attorney Duties: Advise HR and management on day-to-day employment law and labor relations issues including overseeing investigations, addressing leave issues, interpreting labor contracts, and advising on how to properly apply state and federal laws and regulations. Prepare for and negotiate labor agreements. Ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws, and supervise outside counsel defending claims in state and federal court. Manage grievances and labor arbitrations involving discipline and contract interpretation disputes. Investigate and respond to EEOC and state law discrimination charges. Train leaders on a variety of legal topics. Defend against unfair labor charges filed against the Company before the NLRB. Supervise/manage union organizing campaigns where necessary.

Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) required. 5+ years of experience practicing labor & employment law and must be licensed to practice in at least one state. Familiarity with federal employment law (Title VII, FMLA, ADA, WARN, ADEA/OWBA, FLSA, etc.) and multiple states' laws is required. Large firm experience required, with some in-house experience preferred. Traditional labor (union) experience in the private sector is highly preferred. Experience with California law preferred.
