Attorney II/III (CEQA/Environmental) Duties: Conferring with and advising officers, managers, and employees on legal questions; Preparing legal opinions; Drafting ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents; Preparing or helping prepare pleadings, discovery, briefs, and other papers in connection with lawsuits and other legal proceedings in which is involved; Appearing in state and federal court or in various administrative proceedings; Performing a wide variety of legal research and drafting and reviewing a variety of legal documents; Reviewing agreements for conformance with the law and policies; and Other matters assigned by the General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel.

Requirements: Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to the following: Attorney II: Requires a JD Degree from an accredited law school AND 3-4 years of experience in public or other applicable areas of law. Attorney III: Requires a JD Degree from an accredited law school AND 5-7 years of experience in public or other applicable areas of law. All candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of California and possess technical competency in preparing, presenting, and conducting cases; presenting clear and logical statements of fact, law, and argument in written and oral form; analyzing and drafting resolutions and regulations; performing legal research; and communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing. Experience with any of the following will also receive favorable consideration: Complex water resources projects or activities such as water transfers, water or wastewater capital projects, hydropower, etc.; Land use law and LAFCO; and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Strong analytical and writing skills are a must, as are a willingness to learn new areas of law and a genuine passion for collaborating with smart, dedicated people.
