Associate Corporate Counsel, Global Trade (Sanctions) The candidate will focus on economic sanctions compliance for the Consumer, Operations, Devices, and Payments businesses. Working with and influencing both external and internal stakeholders, this role will be at the forefront of complex and high-stakes global sanctions issues. Will have the opportunity to help design and implement advanced sanctions compliance systems and tools and to provide sanctions advice on diverse business initiatives and products. Will also have the opportunity to shape policies and programs in response to complex and constantly evolving sanctions developments for leading e-commerce, technology, and logistics companies. Responsibilities include performing legal research, providing legal and risk analysis, drafting guidance documents, regulatory submissions, and correspondence, managing internal data collection/review projects, developing and implementing processes to simplify or automate recurring tasks, and coordinating with compliance professionals and other legal partners.

The candidate should have strong academic credentials, including a J.D. degree from an accredited law school, and membership in at least one State Bar. Must have 2-4 years of post-admission legal experience, with some portion of that experience at a law firm. Experience handling U.S. economic sanctions matters in a variety of contexts, including human resources, sourcing, shipping logistics, and customer transactions is required. Should have experience advising on restricted party screening and other internal controls related to economic sanctions compliance. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Should be pragmatic and able to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous and challenging situations. Should preferably have experience handling sanctions matters under non-U.S. legal regimes and advising on conflict of law issues related to sanctions compliance. Experience handling sanctions matters for entities in the e-commerce, payments, and/or financial services industries is desired. The desire and aptitude for learning new concepts on the job are required. Should possess the ability to work efficiently and independently; manage high volumes of tasks and projects with little guidance; react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround; take effective action without having to know the total picture; and think creatively and be proactive in solving problems. Must be client-service oriented, have great attention to detail while still meeting tight deadlines, have great organization skills, and have the ability to easily switch gears. A high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, as well as the ability to work well with people at all levels inside and outside the company, is essential.
