Counsel - Real Estate Investments Candidate will be a member of the Department's Real Estate Investments Team and will support the Company's $250+ billion investment portfolio. Will provide legal advice on matters relating to the Company's commercial mortgage loan and real estate equity portfolio. Most legal work is handled entirely in-house. Will: Serve as primary legal counsel to the Company's real estate investment professionals in structuring, negotiating and documenting complex, direct commercial mortgage loans (floating, fixed, permanent and construction), real estate acquisitions and joint venture and development transactions; and Provide legal support for a wide range of asset management and loan servicing activities for the Company's real estate investment portfolio including development matters, joint venture amendments, consents to loan transfers, leasing and management agreements, and other asset management and loan servicing needs. Candidate must have an exemplary academic record and a JD degree; note that a license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin or a commitment to become licensed within the first year of employment is required. Must have 2-5 years of legal experience in one or more of the following areas: commercial mortgage lending, commercial real estate development, real estate joint ventures, large commercial real estate acquisitions. Must be able to analyze a variety of legal issues, synthesize complex information, and provide solution-oriented legal advice to business professionals throughout the enterprise. Desired personal attributes: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a highly analytical and curious mind, creativity, comfort dealing with ambiguity, integrity, high ethical standards, and a positive demeanor. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute effectively in a team environment and to manage a multijurisdictional practice. Ability to work autonomously and to effectively prioritize multiple tasks at the same time. A keen problem-solving approach using sound legal reasoning and practical business judgment to identify and address risks and achieve results that balance benefits for all stakeholders of the enterprise.
