Regulatory Compliance Counsel Duties: Works cross-functionally with business and legal colleagues to support the company's initiatives, providing legal counsel and business-focused solutions. Works proactively to stay abreast of federal, state, and local regulations as well as internal company requirements through research, involvement in trade associations, and industry communications. Collaborates with cross-functional business partners to communicate and implement changes as needed to ensure compliance, as well as plan for compliance with emerging regulatory changes. Drafts, reviews, train on, and socializes compliance policies with the business and vendors as needed on a wide array of compliance matters. Serves as the first point of contact during agency audits and regulatory visits, and acts as liaison and conduit of information across the company, store, DC, and agency. Intakes, researches, and response to regulatory violations filed with various agencies. Identifies and prepares Big Lots representatives as needed for witness interviews and meetings. Anticipates and minimizes potential legal risks. Effectively and efficiently manages outside counsel. Keeps VP of Compliance well informed of significant developments. Qualifications: Juris Doctorate degree is required. Must have 1-5 years of experience at a law firm, in-house, and/or working in a government or for a regulatory agency with experience relevant to the essential duties and responsibilities. Experience with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, particularly as applied to the retail industry, is desired. Ability to keep Company proprietary information confidential. Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to prioritize and juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and business judgment skills. Ability to work under general supervision and make independent decisions within guidelines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively with the Company's management, attorneys, and staff, as well as outside professional advisors and vendors. Admitted to the bar and in good standing in Ohio, or admitted to the bar and in good standing in another state and eligible for admission on motion in Ohio. The ability to travel on a limited basis is a plus.
