Associate General Counsel - Compliance

Associate General Counsel - Compliance Duties: Act as lead counsel to our management team throughout the United States and Canada regarding state, provincial, and federal compliance matters associated with our various business units, products, and services throughout the United States and Canada. Act as the subject matter expert for the vehicle sales compliance landscape by researching and analyzing new/pending laws, regulations, interpretive rulings, and regulatory agency directives. Work cross-functionally to provide compliance expertise to projects and initiatives. Work cross-functionally to assist with implementing regulatory changes into business operations in a timely and cost-effective manner. Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and lead projects relating to enhancement of compliance procedures, policies, and internal controls to support the business. Interface with various individuals within the company, as appropriate, to identify and resolve issues that arise in conducting business, and develop and document best practices. Review and draft state and federal legislation and proposed regulations. Negotiate and draft relevant legal documents. Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with regulators. Collaborate and interface with customers and industry colleagues. Collaborate with cross-functional teams both inside and outside the Legal Department. Provide legal advice in a wide variety of other practice areas on an as-needed basis, lead special projects, and tackle new and novel challenges. Interface with and manage local counsel in the United States and Canada.

Requirements: JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school with bar admission in good standing. 4+ years experience advising large companies regarding Federal and 50-state compliance. Passion for constant growth and improvement. Track record of effective teamwork and collaboration. Impeccable attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Proven ability to achieve superior results in a cost-effective manner operating under time-sensitive deadlines with multiple competing priorities. Business-friendly and creative approach to problem-solving. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to provide clear and concise practical advice across all departments and at all levels. Excellent business judgment and strong negotiation skills. Ability to leverage technology to support the compliance function. Experience advising companies in the vehicle sales and/or vehicle finance industry preferred. Privacy compliance experience a plus.
