Career Opportunities: Director, Assistant General Counsel, Litigation Duties: Manage class action, intellectual property, and business litigation. Coordinate and handle the defense of major class action, intellectual property, and business litigation cases nationwide. Interface with regulatory agencies and other governmental entities on safety and environmental regulation issues and government investigations on behalf of the Company. Manage and organize Company responses to government investigations. Provide support and guidance to the North American Safety Office. Service and product counseling. Antitrust counseling. HAC counseling and litigation. HMM, counseling and litigation. Oversee class action, intellectual property, and business litigation staff to ensure that all such cases are being handled appropriately and cost-effectively. Oversee discovery efforts and strategy with respect to class action, intellectual property, and business litigation matters, as well as government probes and investigations. Provide legal guidance to North American Safety Office. Work with outside counsel to develop appropriate legal and procedural strategies and to ensure proper and efficient handling of cases. Prepare and defend depositions of all HMC engineering witnesses. Coordinate investigations with outside investigators, experts and in-house personnel. Conduct settlement negotiations in all major class action, intellectual property, and business litigation matters. Make recommendations to top management on whether a matter should be settled or tried. Retain appropriate expert witnesses to assist in Hyundai's defense. Represent Hyundai at major trials throughout the United States. Analyze invoices from outside vendors to ensure cost-effective utilization of Company assets. Negotiate special rates from outside vendors. Ongoing communication with HMC and HMA regarding service and product issues. Provide antitrust counseling to HMA employees and management. Provide assistance to Hyundai Auto Canada in litigation matters. Provide assistance to Hyundai Motor Mexico in litigation matters. Manage vendors including vendors outside law firms (define the scope and ensure deliver of goods/services, monitor and drive performance, work to raise level of program effectiveness) Select/terminate and manage vendors in conjunction with Purchasing department. Support various HMA departments through obtaining feedback and suggestions for program improvements, and considering what changes are feasible and appropriate. Position may be involved with interviewing/evaluation of new hires.

Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate. Bachelor's degree is desired. A Master's degree is a plus. Juris Doctorate degree. Must have 10+ years of experience of which 8+ years of directly related experience in automotive class action litigation. Preferably have 7 years of supervisory experience. Must have 5-7 years of related experience defending sophisticated automotive intellectual property litigation lawsuits. Substantial defense experience, major law firm experience is a plus. Specialized training in a related field. Member California State Bar Association.
