AVP, Legal Counsel (Employment Law) Duties: Partners with the Absence Management Center to provide real time legal guidance on leave and ADA related issues, including employee specific issues; policies, procedures, and workflow; and compliance strategy. Partners with Sales and Client Management to provide training on leave and ADA laws to brokers, customers, and prospective customers. Presents absence management solutions as part of the sales team at finalist presentations. Provides legal support to Human Resources Department on issues arising out of our own employee population, including employee specific issues; policies, procedures, and workflow; and compliance strategy. Closely monitors the external environment to identify and address legal trends. Keeps legal management team apprised of and solicits their input as appropriate on significant legal issues. Actively participates in the development of employment team compliance managers and paralegals. May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: JD Degree (law degree) plus admission and proof of good standing to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. Extensive knowledge of state and federal leave laws and regulations and the ADA. 5+ years of experience handling matters involving the FMLA, ADA and state leave laws. Excellent oral and written communication skills to include strong presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with key constituents among a variety of stakeholders. Experience providing employment law advice to business clients preferred. Insurance product knowledge preferred.
