Intellectual Property Counsel, Protein and Cell Analysis Responsibilities: Working directly with R&D teams and educating them on patentable inventions. Interacting with and providing legal and strategic guidance to senior business and R&D management, and other functional organizational leadership. Developing a strategic framework for capturing and protecting sophisticated innovation. Supporting the company IP team in IP Group-wide initiatives and in developing and encouraging a more flexible company-wide IP support model. Conducting a proactive in-depth analysis of competitor and industry IP portfolios. Leading and improving processes for tracking innovations and competitor IP activity. Navigating freedom-to-operate issues. Conducting employee training sessions on the protection of innovations through the patent process and/or trade secrets, maintaining confidential business information, and the overall development of intellectual property assets. Resolving and/or supporting resolution of business unit level disputes. Supporting in-licensing and out-licensing transaction efforts and providing strategic guidance for IP-related transactions. Providing support to our internal litigation team on any IP litigations relating to BID's protein and cell analysis business.

Qualifications: M.S./Ph.D. in Chemical, Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related field, desired. B.S. in Biomedical, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with experience in the life sciences. Admission to a state Bar and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 8+years of experience in intellectual property or the relevant technology, including 4+ years of experience preparing and optimally prosecuting U.S. patent applications related to instrumentation and software inventions. Experience with technologies for protein and cellular analysis. Experience with artificial intelligence is a plus. Experience at premier patent law firm or AmLaw 200 firm. Experience with international patent protection regimes. People management experience.
