Labor, Employment & Benefits Counsel Duties: Under supervision, the counsel (A) serves as the in-house specialist lawyer in the areas of labor, employment and benefits, (B) undertakes transactional work as required or assigned by the General Counsel, and (C) carries out special projects as directed by the General Counsel. Provides advice and counsel on labor, employment and benefits issues for the Group companies in the United States. Works closely with the Human Resources functions of the Group companies in the United States to prepare and revise human resources policies consistent with applicable law. Works closely with the Human Resources functions of the Group companies in the United States to offer training on human resources topics to employees and managers. Consults and advises management and the Human Resources functions of the Group companies in the United States on the handling of employee relations, disciplinary proceedings, reductions in force and layoffs, and administrative claims or charges, such as DFEH or EEOC. Manages outside counsel in employment litigation against any of the Group companies in state or federal court in the United States. Participates in the meetings of and serves and secretary for the MEUH Benefits Committee and provides advice and counsel on benefits issues. Liaises with outside benefits counsel to ensure that the group's benefits plans are updated as necessary or appropriate in light of changes in the law. Prepares and reviews human resources and benefits plan related contracts, including contracts with vendors supporting the MEUH benefits plans and the Human Resources functions of the Group companies in the United States. Undertakes transactional work for various business units as required or assigned by the General Counsel. Carries out special projects as directed by the General Counsel, e.g., reviewing the employment or benefits aspects of due diligence work in M & A transactions. Qualifications: Graduation from a top-tier law school. Admitted to practice law in California. 4 10 years experience in a corporate law department or law firm specializing in employment, labor and/or benefits law. Excellent communications skills. Ability to work well in a multi-cultural environment. Fluency in a foreign language preferred.
