Intellectual Property Counsel

Intellectual Property Counsel The candidate will develop and advance the company's global IP strategy, with a focus on assessment of the IP portfolio and alignment with business needs. Actively manage outside counsel on the preparation, filing and prosecution of applications and registrations for patents and trademarks. Optimize the invention submission and review processes. Provide strategic counsel and updates regarding the competitive IP landscape, including through tracking IP filings of competitors and customers. Effectively and efficiently manage IP litigation and third-party claims. Participate in M&A activities in relation to IP due diligence, transactions, and integration. Partner with internal legal colleagues and outside counsel to provide IP transactional support. Prepare and conduct employee training sessions on the protection of innovations through the patent process, best practices for maintaining confidential business information, including trade secrets, and the overall development of intellectual property assets. Manage legal IP budget to meet budget and cost targets. Analyze market and monitor trends of intellectual property protection. Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the Company's business, technology and product goals, sales models, industry, and challenges.

The candidate should have a J.D. from a major accredited law school. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering. An advanced science degree is preferred. Admission to a State Bar and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Should have 8+ years of progressive experience in the medical device industry. Experience with catheter-based cardiovascular devices is a strong plus. Proven track record developing and implementing patent strategies with demonstrated success securing meaningful global patent protection for products and technology platforms. Litigation and transactions experience in addition to strong prosecution skills. Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with proven willingness and ability to manage and prioritize multiple matters simultaneously, respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations and to pitch in and work collaboratively.
